Huge photos directory of Lebanon

You’ve got to check this old photos directory of Lebanon by the digital documentation center at AUB, which I discovered through one of Sietske’s latest posts. It has more than 12,000 photos categorized by location (Mohafaza and Qadaa), and you can easily spend hours browsing them!

It’s definitely not easy to browse through them and the only reason you will spend hours doing so is because of how horrendous navigating the photos is.

Haven’t they heard of thumbnails? Ok maybe they haven’t but why force every link to open a pop up window? If you commend click to open a link (image) in a new tab the image wont open in a new tab? That means you can’t do a fast command click over a bunch of links to open them in tabs to view quickly.

This has to be the dumbest image gallery I’ve every seen. 99% of the people will never discover and see all the photos because no one has 4 days to spare so they can click on every link one at a time.

I totally agree, although there are some pretty nice photos, the gallery navigation sucks.
Still, by using some browser extension/plugin or a download manager maybe, you can access the directories where the images are stored and download them with a couple of clicks all at once to your computer.
Beirut’s directory is here for example: http://ddc.aub.edu.lb/projects/mot/photobase/images/MT1/

    Thanks Rami for the tip.

I was already aware of this directory (I am a researcher and like to call myself a historian in the making) but I felt the same way as Mark. So thanks again for the tip.
