More on the discrimination at our beach resorts

It looks more like a hopeless case to me… The anti racism movement called several beach resorts and none of them except one at Saida (Zahrat Al-Khayzaran) allows maids to swim in the pools, moreover, the circular issued earlier by the ministry of tourism banning discrimination at beaches seemed irrelevant to them.

The problem however isn’t actually about how the owners of these resorts think, it’s in fact about how WE think. Resorts owners will never mind charging maids regular fees and let them swim instead of admitting them for free to just watch over kids, but it’s us who are deep down racist and wouldn’t accept swimming with our maids, and those resorts are therefore just catering to our demands!

So until we become more civilized and accept the fact that people of different skin color are equal to us, you’ll keep seeing videos like the one above.

Couldnt agree more with you on this Rami. It is not about the owners or the beaches , rather the arrogance of some Lebanese who believe they are above most in social standings.

If the government did send a circular then this is not enough, it should be illegal from services owners to deny entry to anyone regardless or race, religion, social standing and sex. In other words the government should make such circulars law (If they are not already). And (If they are), they should enforce them with finds and closure for multiple offenses.

At the end of the day, it is our fault for letting such establishments create such racist laws since they are merely reflecting their clientele, however it is also the role of the government to make sure its citizens and expats are treated fairly.

    two things we could do:

We should add anti racism laws to the long standing requests that have already been submitted to the government, i am sure they will do something about it (<– Sarcasm)

    or

Create an awareness of the issue and conduct a boycot until the owners are forced to acknowledge that what they are doing is wrong.

How can we accept to treat foreign workers like that while over 3 Million Lebanese are foreign workers in the diaspora, many of whom are also servants …

I wish the owners and responsible workers at these resort were denied entry/travel to another country simply because they are Lebanese Racists!

It’s not a matter of racism when black tourists can easily enter to beach resorts and clubs, but ‘maids’ in specific are banned. It’s the perception in our society that they are inferior in rights and even hygiene.

For that, i’m not sure this is racism and thus calls for an ‘Anti-Racism Movement’ per se, because I’m bound to witness an African-American being harrassed because of his skin. Maybe we Lebs are simply uptight…

Nicolas, Racism does not only apply to black / white issues. And to clear things up Lebs are not uptight, they are arrogant and full of themselves without reason.

Anyway we can call it whatever we like, its still wrong to deny entry to anyone based on race thus making it racist

I disagree. This is a question matter of law. It is illegal to discriminate against people based on their nationality, and the first thing that should happen is for the law to be enforced equally in all resorts. Once that happens, the people who are bothered by the presence of people they do not wish to share a pool with will just have to DEAL WITH IT, because it is perfectly legal for any paying customer to access these resorts regardless of their nationality.
Yes, we are a bunch of bastard retards for the kind of values we currently have, but this particular failure is awarded to the lack of proper law enforcement in the country, nothing else.
