Bird hunting in Lebanon

Birds hunting season has been on for a while now, and unfortunately Lebanese hunters are shooting at anything that flies, just as in every year.

Check out this article from Wildlife Extra about hunting in Lebanon and the massacres hunters are committing by shooting very large quantities and targeting some rare species.

The Lebanese Eco Movement says “All kinds of birds are being hunted, and most of hunters are indifferent to the matter of protected birds. We are witnessing the murder of many protected birds, mainly soaring birds (aquatic birds and raptors), including pelicans, storks, cranes, raptors.”

“As for the birds that can be hunted, there is no respect for the numbers and limits. We are witnessing birds being killed in thousands. A single hunter may kill more than one thousand birds. Hunters are of all ages; they may be as young as 10, even though Lebanese law prohibits holding weapons for ages less than 18.”

“Hunting mainly takes place during weekends, but hunters can be seen any day of the week, at any place, even inside cities and between houses.”

It’s very unfortunate that very little attention is brought to this issue.. Hunters in Lebanon seem to have a complete lack of understanding of how their actions threaten the balance of the natural ecosystems.

ma3ak 7a2, you are right and some birds can not be eaten for example doure, but they just shooting everything with feathers, my dad had a farm that contain 21,000 chickens and he traveled for one week. after he came he went to his farm and found out that every single chicken was shot but the hunter wasn’t able to get into the farm and get them so he left all the 21,000 chicken on the floor and went away
another story. i adore hunting and my dad bought me my very first rifle that is called the (12) when i was 5 years old and since then, i need 50 cartilages everyday and now since i am 12 years old and i have two pump actions, i need around 90.00 L.L. every week to buy 250 cartilages. so i once took the 90.00 L.L. and bought 60 ferre and put them in the farm, and after 3 days, i found that none of them were there and since then i didn’t buy any birds, and just shot what is eatable and eat them the second day
