This is hilarious! I’ve been searching for some PDF version of this book ever since Bassam Abou Zaid tweeted about it a few days ago, and just last night, he made a news report about it. The Lebanese ministry of energy and water published a comic book called “A nation’s dream” starring minister Gibran Bassil and his son, telling a story that takes place in 2020 after we became an oil-producing country.
The story starts with Gibran Bassil and his son boarding a metro from Batroun towards Beirut passing by all the projects that Bassil has started, from dams to gas pipes and Beirut’s solar snake, then shows how Zouk became much less polluted and how the public dump in Dora turned into some touristic destination. The story then ends with Gibran Bassil telling how proud he feels to be among the few people who actually contributed into realizing the dreams of this country!
I totally loved the sarcastic comment by Bassam Abou Zaid at the end of the report by the way.

never seen a country where the population finds excuses for ministers: he’s doing his best they say… WTF! We need electricity not posters, books, tv ads.
It’s easier to cure from cancer than from aounism.
So we’re not allowed to dream anymore?
He may be delusional, he may be a liar, he may be a dreamer or unrealistic, but he may be right as well.
I salute his efforts in re-creating the dream in our minds of having a better country.
Lebanese people are now trained to criticize the bad, the good, the average, the excellent, the liar, the truthful, etc. I think we need to catch a break and start believing again in Gebran AND in others from other opposing parties who are actually talking about real stuff.
The guy has been there for a year and a half. If we need to build one single room and paint it and decorate, it takes us 1 year, so take a deep breath and wait. we waited 15 years on the previous ones with ZERO progress. yes, ZERO progress.

Since when did we have the excellent, the good, and the truthful in Lebanon, as politicians that is? We only have the liar, the thief and the corrupt! Please remove those coloured glasses and see them for what they really are! A disgrace and a sad reality for our beloved country.
