Israel smashing Lebanon’s Hummus record

January 8th, 2010 Rami 1 comment

Lebanese chefs, minister of tourism, people of Lebanon, I beg you not to respond back with another silly world record, instead try to really work on a plan to penetrate the world market with our traditional Mezza dishes!

An Arab-Israeli village is planning to make the world’s biggest hummus, a chickpea dip that stirs passions across the Middle East. Lebanon may not like it.
On Friday, residents of Abu Gosh, near Jerusalem, will mash up 4,000 kilograms of chickpeas, sesame paste, olive oil, lemon juice and garlic.

That is twice as much as the Guinness world record set in October by chefs in Lebanon, Israel’s neighbour and rival.

The Falafel war has just begun

While surfing Naharnet today I came across this dangerous news:

Lebanon in War with Israel but this Time on Falafel

Director General of the Lebanese Industrialists Association Saadeddine al-Owaini is urging Arab countries to participate in the campaign launched against Israel for “stealing the region’s dishes.”
Owaini announced that he will start contacting the region’s ambassadors to urge them to take part in the campaign after a tehini-filled falafel marketed under the Ta’amti brand won the prize for the best food from Israel at the Kosherfest food and beverage trade event, held in New Jersey last month.

The trade fair is held once a year in New Jersey under the slogan “Where trends emerge and traditions continue.”

Owaini further complained that Israel is exporting the boxed falafel to make huge sums of money and without having played any role in the appearance of such a dish in the region.

Owaini said he will send a letter to the Lebanese economy and trade ministry to urge it to complain to international authorities. To retaliate, he vowed to prepare the biggest falafel and enter the Guinness book of records to remind the world that falafel is not Israeli.

It seems that the Israelis are really enjoying this food fight! In brief, an Israeli company is marketing a tahini filled Falafel under the name of Taamti, and they won a prize for it being the best Israeli food. Now guess who started complaining! Mr. Saadeddine Owaini.

But since we, the Lebanese people, are known to quickly respond to any threat, and since setting a world record became a piece of cake to us, Mr. Owaini decided that we will be making the world’s biggest Falafel to enter the Guinness book and remind the whole world that the Falafel is indeed Lebanese.

I wonder how is this big piece of Falafel going to fit into a sandwich? Or are we going to also make the world’s biggest Arabic bread?

By the way, how about a better idea other than setting records to defend our Lebanese cuisine? I suggest “striking” the Jewish cuisine and start exporting some of their cooking as Lebanese products. That would be cool! ;)

Cedar Island

January 29th, 2009 Rami 2 comments

It all started in Dubai with the Palm islands, followed by the Pearl island in Qatar, and soon we might have the Cedar Island here in Lebanon at the cost of Damour!

Covering an area of 3.311.731.60 squared meters in the touristic coastal area of Lebanon, the Cedar Island lends itself as a luxurious residential, commercial, and touristic project. Its geographical location along the Lebanese coast allows it to play a vital role in attracting tourists and VIP residents looking for an exotic lifestyle or escaping from the city.

I’ve read about this project in different new sources and to my knowledge there are still some doubts about realizing it. However, if you check the project’s website, you notice like the project is on its way to be started.

An interesting project indeed, but the question is: What is the enviromental cost for this artificial Cedar Island??

Updates:

  1. There are a couple of groups on Facebook, one supporting the project, and the other is opposing it.
    Via Nihil Declaro.
  2. I tend to agree with this guy, who wrote a post titled “The island of Dr. Moron“.
  3. Check this interesting article about the environmental cost of the artificial islands in Dubai, the article is followed by a response by an environmental scientist from the Nakheel project of Dubai.

Rockets fired to Israel

January 8th, 2009 Rami No comments

Today morning an e-mail was sent to Israel including 4 attachment and signed by “Anonymous”, the Lebanese people and Hezbollah were copied on that e-mail in order for them to know about the ongoing communication.

I wonder if Israel will be doing a “Reply to all” as it did in July 2006, or if it will just reply to the original sender.

By tonight we will have an answer I think. W minshoufkon.

Gaza is burning

While the Arabs are still arguing if Hamas has the right to resist the Israeli occupation or not, Ghaza is burning.

This is nothing less than a mass murder… no it’s not war.

Let us not forget

Sowar

As part of a “Let us not Forget” campaign, Sowar Magazine released a special edition entitled “Snapshots from the Lebanese Civil War (1975-1990),” which features by some of the most prominent international photographers (including Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist Bill Foley).

The intent of the initiative is to remind people of the horrors of war so that they’re not repeated, particularly as Lebanon passes through a politically-charged time, although a unity government was announced yesterday!

Anyway, I already seen a preview of this issue via this link and the available photos look pretty interesting, so I will of course buy it as it is worth keeping in my library.

Tripoli bullshit

July 10th, 2008 Rami 1 comment

While our army studs are resting on their rusty vehicles…

Lebanese Army

Idiot Lebanese motherfuckers dressing like clowns as this one below, are working really hard in Tripoli to get us back into a second civil war. (one is never enough for us!)

Tripoli terrorist

Seriously, شو هالمنظر؟؟

This time it’s Alawites VS. Sunnis in Tripoli. Weapons in the hand of Alawites is somehow justified, since they can easily get from Syria (I assume), BUT how did the Sunnis lay their hands on weapons? And who has been supplying them with it?

If you got any answer, let me know by comment!

Footages of Halba massacre

May 13th, 2008 Rami 11 comments

When I first read what Darko had to say in his blog about the incidents that occurred in Halba and resulted in executing 11 SSNP (Syrian Social National Party) fighters by the Future Movement militia, I was saddened by the fact that what we thought was part of the past is haunting us again…

Today, videos of the massacre started circulating everywhere, and I was literally in awe watching the disturbing footages, I am not claiming here that SSNPers are angels, actually each party is guilty in the current crisis, but executing people (or fighters or militia or whatever you wanna call them) in such a brutal way, and then kicking and beating their dead bodies is JUST PLAIN INSANE!!

What irritated me the most was one guy telling the cameraman “Film me while I place my sandal in his mouth” (pointing at one dead body). How sick is that!! Anyone would call that massacre a war crime…

Despite all this, Future Movement are still denying being a militia! I just wonder what would they do when they officially declare themselves as a militia! I am not pro SSNP, nor pro Future Movement, but I sure am pro humanity!

If you wanna have a look at the videos (there are 3 of the already), I will be publishing links to them below, but download them on your own responsibility because they’re so violent. You may as well check the videos site as they were also published on YouTube.
