Crocodiles spotted in Beirut river

Crocodiles in Beirut river

According to this article in Al-Joumhouria, at least three crocodiles were spotted in Beirut river near Karantina after someone dumped them there. After checking with a veterinarian, it turned out these are actually Nile crocodiles, a specie that is quite dangerous (do there exist safe ones?).

Both ministries of environment and agriculture were unfortunately unaware of this story, and I guess the crocodiles will  most probably die on their own before these ministries decide to take any action. So for the time being, Animals Lebanon will be working on catching them and returning them back to Africa.

You can read the full article here.

Update:

Below is a video showing one of the crocodiles in Beirut river.

Addiyar newspaper being epic

Rami Al Amine posted this funny snapshot from Addiyar newspaper today. Apparently one of their journalists, Mohamad Ballout, failed to report to them some news that eventually made it to all local news outlets. So they dedicated a few lines on the front page today to “thank” him for his work!

A new Solidere in the making?

Adjacent to downtown Beirut is a small area called “Khanda2 el Ghami2”, and if you happened to pass by it someday, you can’t but notice the many abandoned buildings there. Once street in fact, the Tayyan street which is pretty close to Beirut Digital District, looks deserted with many vacant buildings. And what’s weirder is that there isn’t a single construction site there even though we all know there’s always a high demand for Land in Beirut.

Upon asking around a bit, one trusted source told me there’s a real estate company that is slowly purchasing every single building in Khanda2 el Ghami2 (the area enclosed in red), and have so far purchased many of the buildings you see in the picture above, in order to later demolish them all and reconstruct the whole area to make way for commercial spaces, residential towers, etc… and thus making it quite similar to what Solidere looks like.

Not that I oppose the idea, since the company isn’t doing anything illegal and is actually offering good money to the owners, but if would be interesting to learn more about this project. So if you have any information about it, please do share it in the comments.

Priceless: Haifa Wehbi goes crazy over a prank by Ramez Galal

Ramez Galal is an Egyptian actor who’s very known there for his celebrity prank shows during Ramadan. Today’s episode of his show “Ramez Ankh Amon” featured Haifa Wehbe who was terrified after getting locked in a dark room with a mummy! Her reaction though was totally priceless once Ramez revealed himself, she started cursing him and the crew together, at some point she even started hitting them!

If you don’t want to watch the whole thing, start at the 11th minute mark.

Ramez by the way also pranked Cyrine Abdelnour last year.

Lebanese national basketball team suspended for four years

lebanese basketball

Looks like things are going from bad to worse for Lebanese Basketball. Annahar just posted a few minutes ago that the FIBA has suspended the Lebanese national team from participating in international tournaments for four years!

Wasn’t basketball the only somehow successful sport in this country? I hope politicians who have contributed to this mess are satisfied now.
