Lebanese Nizam Shalak Stranded in Ecuador Airport for Over 40 Days Now

Lebanese Nizam Hussein Shalak has been living inside Jose Joaquin de Olmedo airport in Ecuador for over 40 days now an we unfortunately wouldn’t have heard about his case if it wasn’t for the foreign media outlets.

The man visited Ecuador two months ago, but on his way back to Lebanon he stopped in Barcelona where he was detained after losing his papers and credit cards and was sent back to the Ecuador. He is now living off food coupons that airlines offer to him and gets to shower every few days when he is allowed to do so.

What’s puzzling though is that the Lebanese consulate in Ecuador didn’t know about Shalak until the media there reported about him, so I think the ministry of foreign affairs here in Lebanon doesn’t have an idea about the matter as well, and chances are he will have to wait several more weeks until they figure out how to issue new papers for him.

His situation is not unique by the way and many other people ended up somehow living inside airports around the world after they lost or got rid of their personal papers (check here), with the most notable case being that of an Iranian man who lived in Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris for around 18 years!

Direct MEA Flights From Beirut to Madrid Soon to Be Launched

Middle East Airlines recently announced they will be operating direct flights from Beirut to Madrid three times a week starting June 16th 2018, and it is a good news to everyone planning a vacation to Spain this summer.

The only way to reach Spain non-stop previously was to fly to Barcelona aboard one of the charter flights operated by local travel agencies, but ticket prices can reach ~$900 during summer season which is a total rip off just like the overpriced tickets to Paphos in Cyprus and Dalaman in Turkey. On the other hand, the advertised price by MEA (starting $358) seems very reasonable even if your final destination is Barcelona since you can simply take a train from Madrid.

Still, the budget airline Vueling is also reportedly in talks to launch affordable Beirut-Barcelona flights so there’s still hope for this route to get cheaper as well.

Ronaldinho is in Beirut!

I just spotted a tweet by Ronaldinho posted a few hours ago stating he’s in Beirut with a photo of himself in Zaitunay Bay.

I didn’t find any accurate details about the purpose of his visit anywhere on the web, but let’s hope he’s negotiating playing a game in Lebanon along with other football legends like the one that took place at Fouad Chehab stadium last summer.

P.S: I hope people stop posting jokes about him signing for Al Ahed because they’re so lame!

Update:

Here are some more photos courtesy of a friend of mine.

Tamanna & Le Mall grant Charlie a trip to Barcelona

There was clapping and cheering, laughter and blushing faces. Moukarzel’s mother and father wiped away tears and smiles broke across their faces. Moukarzel is going on a free trip to Barcelona to watch his favorite team and favorite player Lionel Messi.

Moukarzel is a passionate Barcelona fan: He has memorized Barcelona’s games and Messi’s goals. Moukarzel is also afflicted with a chronic, degenerative disease that has him wheelchair bound and robbed of his normal speech. His prognosis is grim.

A group that helps children with critical illnesses, Tamanna, asked Moukarzel last month what he wanted to do above anything else. He said he wanted to see Messi play.

“Is there anything else?” they asked. “Messi,” he repeated. Just Messi. Source
