Game of Thrones Season 6 Premiere at Metro Al Madina

game of thrones season 6

Game of Throne season 6 is almost here, and if you happen to be a fan of the show then you’re most probably already planning how to watch the first episode as soon as it gets aired on April 25th (Beirut time). At the end, we’re all eager to know Jon Snow’s fate!

Being 19 days ahead of the first episode, I thought I should share a couple of things with the Lebanese fans of the show. First, there’s a group on Facebook called “Game of Thrones – Fans in Lebanon” where Lebanese fans discuss the episodes  and exchange their views of the events, they also respect the time people take to watch the new episodes and refrain from posting any spoilers until Monday night. I recommend you join it if you like to engage in debates about GoT with like-minded people.

Second, the group admins are organizing a screening of the first episode on April 25th in Metro Al Madina Hamra at 6:30PM. So if you would like to watch it with a group of cool people in a near cinema style setting you can call Metro Al Madina on 76-309363 and reserve your seats. Tickets are sold for 10,000L.L with one round of popcorn. You can check all the event details here on Facebook. (Note that the finale will also be

And while we’re at it, I will soon be writing a separate post to share with you the setup I have at home to get the new episodes automatically downloaded as soon as they’re out on the internet, and the media server I use to play them on my TV.

Valar Morghulis!

Update:

The event has unfortunately been cancelled following complaints by OSN.

Nostalgic Highlights Video of a Lebanese Football Match From Early Nineties

IMG_9713.PNG

This is one blast from the past! Nejmeh Sporting Club page on Facebook posted a nostalgic video from the early ninties of a football match between Nejmeh and Ansar on the club stadium in Manara.

The video shows the stadium in bad shape with no grass and a funny way to level it since the game took place shortly after the civil war has ended, moreover due to the limited role of the Lebanese security forces at that time you will notice that the Syrian army was in charge of keeping order.

The fans’ chantings sounded pretty amusing by the way and I wish the sport remained popular till our days since it really helped easing the struggle between the Sunna who in general used to cheer for Ansar and Shia who on the other hand cheered for Nejmeh. Back then there was really very little tension in the streets between the two sects and the implicit hatred towards each other used to be expressed in the stadiums only. Nowadays a simple disagreement between members of these sects threatens a new civil war. Time do change as they say…!

Anyway, make sure to watch the video as I’m sure it will bring you a lot of memories if you were born prior the mid eighties. Hussein Dokmak who joined Nejmeh in 1997 and later died in 2007 by the car bomb that targeted Walid Eido also appears in this video at the 1m10s mark, he’s the kid on the left holding the Nejmeh flag.

If the video doesn’t load then you can watch it here on Facebook.

Video of the Mannschaft fans going crazy in Hamra

This is insane! Check how the fans of Germany celebrated in Hamra following the win over Argentina in the world cup final last night!

On a side note, I’m a fan of Germany too and have been waiting for this moment for 24 years now! 😀

The reason why Lebanese football is miserably failing

I’m not sure when was this video taken, but it pretty much explains why Lebanese football and sports in general is failing miserably. The video shows the Nejmeh Sporting Club fans chanting for their team then suddenly cheering for Syria and Bashar El Assad proving one more time that every sports club in this country is destined to be associated with a certain political view, political party, sect, etc…

This by the way kind of reminds me of the golden days of Lebanese basketball when Riyadi’s crowd (mainly muslims) used to chant for Syria while Sagesse’s crowd used to chant for USA! And I would never be surprised if Lebanese fans of European football teams get divided following their sects and parties one day.

Lebanon – Qatar game to be played without fans!

Looks like the upcoming World Cup qualifying game between Lebanon and Qatar at Beirut Sports City is going to be played without fans. That’s what the government has announced today in fear that possible chants against Qatar might threaten the relation between the two countries!

As if banning fans from attending games between the local teams was not enough, not they’re banned from international games as well! Why do Lebanese politics have to mess up everything in this country?

Overdoing the World Cup 2010 – II

I was in Tripoli last Saturday on the way to El-Mina when I spotted this building covered with German flags on all sides! And obviously that fanatic supporter Rabah Assafiri is so proud of himself that he’s even displaying his name on a flag for Bayern Munich… probably to get attention? He got mine at least.

There’s probably more flags on this building than on Berlin’s presidential palace!

Overdoing the World Cup 2010

The world cup is kicking off in less than a month and lot of people are getting those mini flags for their cars and balconies, it might seem silly but it’s cool as long as it makes people deviate a bit from the political discussions.

Still, it really is pathetic when you get a flag that is more than 1 meter in width or length! I’m pretty sure you could have put that spent money for a better use! Probably to fix your screeching brakes?

I took the first photo in Jdeideh, while I got the second via one of my Facebook friends.
