Snow for this year seems to be promising

I’ve been to Faraya on Saturday afternoon and noticed that you could see snow around you shortly after you cross Achkout roundabout and before you even reach Mayrouba or Hrajel. That’s a sight we’ve missed for the last two years I guess, which held little snow compared to what we’re used for.

Did we kiss global warming goodbye?

Excalibur Show are giving Santa a break!

Unbelievable! 😀

That’s another ad I got by e-mail from Excalibur Show! This time they’re on a mission and look pretty serious about it, they’re giving Santa a break!

But their previous e-mail looked much better, this one looks more like a lingerie ad… Shu hal sheghel!

Blog Action Day 2009 – Climate Change

In case you’re wondering, the blog action day is the day when the blogsphere unite to talk about a subject that relates to all of us, and this year’s subject is the climate change.

Today I won’t be writing about what the climate change is and its bad effects on our planet, I’m pretty sure you lately came across several articles about that (just in case you didn’t, here’s something for you). This post will be more about what we as individuals can do in our not-so-ecofriendly country, also known as Lebanon.

  1. Carpooling on a daily basis is hard I know, and our transportation sucks big time that’s for sure, but I know that I can leave my car home at least twice or more each month and reach my destination either with a friend or in a bus. And so can you!
  2. Do turn off lights when you don’t need them! That’s the least you can do to help the environment. (and to reduce your electricity bill of course!)
  3. Recycling! If you do work then let your boss know that Sukleen CAN collect recyclable materials upon request. So contact them as soon as possible and let them collect your paper trash for recycling.
  4. Think twice before you print, do you really need that document in hard copy?
  5. Plant a tree if you can, the environment will love you for that.
  6. … and the list goes on…

I know my post alone might not convince you to make a slight change in your lifestyle to help reducing the effects of the climate change, but just wait until the end of the day and see how much blogs will be talking about the same matter! Then you’ll know how serious it is! Oh and make sure to also check this shocking post from Travel Blog Magazine.

Earth Hour – Lebanon

vote-earth

On Saturday March 28th at 8:30PM the world will be voting earth by turning off the lights for one hours, the Earth Hour.

Some students from the Notre Dame University noticed that among the arab countries only Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates are contributing in the event. So they decided that Lebanon SHOULD take part in being earth responsible, therefore they created this facebook group, with the slogan “Chou Na2esna?” (”what’s requiring us to participate?”).

The answer to their slogan is simple, what’s missing is electricity in Lebanon! Thank’s to Électricité Du Liban, we are “voting earth” at least 3 hours a day (at least I do). Not to forget of course that some roads are always dark, and thus “voting earth” on a daily basis. Meen addna?

Anyway, I think the move is very symbolic and is not effective against global warming, people will forget about it very soon. If I were in the NDU students place, I would have redirected my efforts into convincing my university (or other organizations) to buy windmills, solar firms or whatever, in order to produce pollution-free energy and become a serisouly socially responsible organization.
