Maxime Chaya’s new adventure: Rowing the Indian Ocean

maxime chaya

After completing the seven summits project in 2006 and the three poles challenge in 2009, Maxime Chaya is up for a new adventure in around 3 months from now, rowing the Indian Ocean.

Maxime’s journey will start in Western Australia and ends Mauritius off the east coast of Africa. And once the boat he’s boarding departs, there will be no way to turn back since the wind at that wind will prevent it from doing so.

You can check all about this new adventure on this website RowingTheIndianOcean.com.

Lebanese football referee gets attacked by players!

WTF!!

As if Lebanon needed more scandals and ugly incidents, this outrageous uncivilized act against a referee in a football match came to add salt to the wound. The referee did not give Al Nahda Club a penalty in the added time of the second half against Al Salam Zgharta, and the players went crazy chasing him all across the pitch. The video here doesn’t show more of the attack but it gives you an enough idea about what happened.

Will Julian Khazzouh play in the Lebanese basketball league?

There are some things in this country that are meant to never be understood. Things like whether sports players who have earlier played in the Israeli leagues are allowed to play in Lebanon or not.

The basketball player you see in the photo above is Julian Khazzouh, a Lebanese who was born in Australia where he played for the Sydney Kings in addition to some other Europan teams and Israel’s Ironi Ramat Gan. He also recently joined the Sagesse squad and is supposed to start playing for them starting the upcoming season.

Now you all know it was made clear last year that foreign players who previously received a work permit in Israel are not allowed to play for the Lebanese sports club.

However, Julian Khazzouh used his Australian passport to play for the Israel team, but started using the Lebanese ID he already has when he came here, and practically the law doesn’t apply to him anymore since it just mentions foreign players!

Moreover, it’s very clear for the Lebanese that traveling to Israel or dealing with Israelis is against the law, yet the Lebanese Basketball Federation is still to this moment going in discussions to decide whether Khazzouh will be given a permit to play or not! How on earth is this a hard case to solve?!

What’s even more shameful than Sagesse signing this guy is reading people like Elie Mechantaf defending him!

“We solved the issue with the Lebanese judiciary, as he [Khazzouh] played in Israel with his Australian passport,” Sagesse’s former captain and current president Elie Mchantaf said.

“[Khazzouh] has now regained Lebanese nationality and the law does not prevent him from playing here.

“We are working lawfully regarding this issue, and I assure everyone that he will be present in Sagesse’s first game of the season,” he added. Source

Her upcoming game today isn’t going to be an easy one though, since she’ll be competing with Tseng Li-Cheng from Taipei, who was ranked first in the 2012 Asian championships.

All the luck to Andrea!

Update:

Andrea unfortunately lost 2-5 to Tseng Li-Cheng.

Wassim Nasser FAILED to break the national record

I earlier posted this video by Saida TV claiming that Wassim Nasser did succeed to break the national national by swimming for 47 kilometers from Saida to Beirut while in fact  he actually failed and will be trying to do it once again next year.

“The weather was not good at all and Wassim [Nasser] was swimming against the wind,” Intanious Naafa, Nasser’s friend and representative, told The Daily Star Monday.

Nasser’s aimed to break a record set by Abdel-Latif Abu al-Hauf for swimming 42 kilometers from the southern city of Sidon to Beirut in the 1960s.

He sought to cover 47 kilometers.

The athlete’s route started from a point parallel to Sidon’s Crusader Castle and ended in Ramlet al-Bayda; 8 kilometers less than his original goal.

“Wassim will increase the distance next year and hopefully achieve his goal,” Naafa said, praising his friend for his persistence and great effort in achieving such a task. Source

Still, reaching Ramlet El-Bayda is still quite impressive!
