The cold weather that we are experiencing this weekend is bringing much needed snow to our mountains and Faraya seems to have got a good amount so far.
The cold front is supposed to last over the next week I think and more snow is expected, so the slopes may probably open in the next couple of weekends.
Below is a photo showing how the slopes in Faraya looked like on the same day of the previous year (January 3rd 2014), so 2015 looks definitely promising.

The Washington Post posted some photos that were taken yesterday by NASA of the snowstorm Alexa that hit the region last week.
The white areas on the land are all snow, another wider photo shows that even a northern area of Saudi Arabia got a little bit of snow.
On a side note, the author of the article might have to consider educating himself a bit more about the middle east as he thinks “it is quite something” to see snow around here and our neighbors!
NASA’s Earth Observatory has posted a photo of the storm taken from space. It was taken Dec. 15, after the storm had passed and the skies had cleared; the white areas on the land are snow, not clouds. It’s quite something to see the snow across Lebanon, Syria and Israel.

I don’t know since when did we start calling storms that hit Lebanon by names, but the storm that’s currently hitting Lebanon is called “The Bride“!

I was driving from Tripoli to Beirut yesterday when I was surprised with a haze covering the area from Zouk all the way to Khaldeh. It was actually the first time for me to see a haze that thick on the coastline, even flights were halted for a couple of hours at Beirut airport.
Here’s a couple of photos that I found on Facebook taken by Mr. Mohamad Mashnouk around sunset. You’d think the first one was taken in Dubai.
I’ve been to Faraya on Saturday afternoon and noticed that you could see snow around you shortly after you cross Achkout roundabout and before you even reach Mayrouba or Hrajel. That’s a sight we’ve missed for the last two years I guess, which held little snow compared to what we’re used for.

Below is a comparison of how the Jonction domain at Faraya looked like on the same day (January 13th) over three years. With the current storm we’re witnessing, and another one coming on Sunday, this season seems quite promising for both skiers and ski resorts! If only the price of lift passes can be decreased though…
I was driving and melting yesterday in Beirut’s hot and humid weather when I noticed that the indicator in my car is showing a weather temperature of 43 degree Celsius!
We’re used to high temperatures in the 30’s, but 43?! That’s so Dubai! We’ve got no more snow in the winter, and summer is starting to feel like a living hell, I wonder how will it be like in the next few years…
