Picadilly Theater – Hamra
Make sure to check these cool recent photos Al-Akhbar has published from inside the Picadilly theater in Hamra. This theater is most famous for hosting several performances by Fayrouz and Ziad El-Rahbani, but a fire unfortunately broke out in it back in the 90s and has been inactive ever since.
In an ideal world, someone would take the initiative to renovate the Picadilly and Zaid El-Rahbani would come back to it for a new performance! (One can always dream..)

More on the discrimination at our beach resorts
It looks more like a hopeless case to me… The anti racism movement called several beach resorts and none of them except one at Saida (Zahrat Al-Khayzaran) allows maids to swim in the pools, moreover, the circular issued earlier by the ministry of tourism banning discrimination at beaches seemed irrelevant to them.
The problem however isn’t actually about how the owners of these resorts think, it’s in fact about how WE think. Resorts owners will never mind charging maids regular fees and let them swim instead of admitting them for free to just watch over kids, but it’s us who are deep down racist and wouldn’t accept swimming with our maids, and those resorts are therefore just catering to our demands! So until we become more civilized and accept the fact that people of different skin color are equal to us, you’ll keep seeing videos like the one above.

Yet another flash mob at ABC Achrafieh
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), one of the most common and serious forms of arthritis, is a chronic disease, mainly characterized by inflammation of the lining, or synovium, of the joints. It can lead to long-term joint damage, resulting in chronic pain, loss of function, irreversible joint destruction and disability.
RA affects 1% of the Lebanese population according to the Lebanese Society of Rheumatology.The 2012 awareness campaign will highlight the importance of early diagnosis by detecting signs and symptoms of the disease.
As part of the awareness campaign activities and to ensure that the campaign reaches all segments of the society, the flash mob comes as a visual message highlighting the importance of early diagnosis for people with RA so as to keep on dancing and enjoying life.
Not only did it surprise and delight the mall shoppers who witnessed the ‘live’ version, the video has also gone viral via social media.

This project is organized by IRADA, a non-profit patient support group that focuses on Rheumatoid Arthritis awareness in Lebanon. It was held at the ABC Mall, Achrafieh, and was performed by 100 talented dancers from the ‘Moves Dance Studio’.

Boycott Spinneys?
Looks like there’s a campaign building up to boycott Spinneys because of treating their employees unfairly.
According to Abir Ghattas, Spinneys refused to abide by the government’s decision to increase wages, and went further by firing the employees who dared to voice their demands to the management by signing a petition.
Unfortunately, Spinneys is not the only firm who refused to give that increase to its employees, in fact many others also did the same, but luckily for them very few or even none of these cases made it to the media since these companies knew beforehand that their employees will prefer to keep their mouth shut than risking their job by making a trouble about the matter.
Anyway, now that the minister of labor is aware of the issue, let’s see if he will really have the guts to do something about it as promised!

Vimto in Lebanon
I spotted these Vimto bottles at TSC Hazmieh yesterday.
Vimto is a quite popular drink in the gulf, and to my knowledge people there heavily consume it during the holy month of Ramadan that stocks are sometimes rationed!
I bought a bottle to try it out, and noticed that it actually contains berry flavored concentrated syrup to be mixed with cold water, but found it tasting quite average compared to the homemade berry juice we have here.
Anyway, if you’re used to Vimto and was looking to have it in Lebanon, you now know where to find it!
