Old Footage From The Opening of The Beirut-Tripoli Railway in 1942

I’m pretty sure we will never witness something similar to this during our lifetime.

This video I just found on YouTube shows old footage from the opening of the Beirut-Tripoli railway line on December 20th 1942 which was at that time the last link in the Cairo-London line, and you can see the Lebanese president back then Alfred Naccache present at the event (at the 1m56s mark).

This railway was by the way also connected at that time to Haifa in Palestine, but following the Israeli occupation in 1948 and civil war that erupted in Lebanon in 1975, it almost all disappeared except for a small portion that is currently still operational nowadays between Nahariya and Haifa in northern Occupied Palestine. As you watch the video you can easily identify Naher El Kaleb at the beginning and probably Jbeil at the 1m10s mark, but it gets difficult (at least for me) to identify the areas that later show.

Film Ameriki Tawil is Coming Out in October

film ameriki tawil

When Bennesbe Labokra Shou started showing earlier this year, M Media promised that Film Ameriki Tawil will hit the theater next, and they just released their trailer for it both on their website and on Facebook announcing that it is coming out in October.

Judging from the trailer and the footage they released earlier, the image quality seems to be significantly better and more stable than that of Bennesbe Labokra Shou.

I personally never get bored of listening to Film Ameriki Tawil on the radio and can’t wait for the release date. Let’s hope Shi Feshil is next on the list for M Media as I guess we are all eager to know how tiny was that gypsum waterfall in the play!

The trailer is available here and here.

Bachir Gemayel The Series

FB_IMG_1472632228311

Bachir Gemayel is probably the most controversial Lebanese figure of our modern history whose personality was admired by his allies and opponents alike, and for the 34th commemoration of his assassination MTV Lebanon is showing a 5-episode documentary about him.

I personally have always felt curious to watch segments about Bachir’s short political life and rise to power, and there are several available documentaries on YouTube about that matter, but I believe this one is a must watch for those interested in our recent history because it was prepared by George Ghanem who already provided several great documentaries about Lebanese political parties and figures during his days at LBC. Moreover, the used material was provided by Bachir Gemayel Foundation and includes footage and speeches that were never shown before.

The episodes are being aired every Tuesday at 8:45PM with 2 episodes already out, and you can also watch them online here on MTV’s website.

Beautiful Aerial Photos of Dahyeh by Mahdi Skafi

FB_IMG_1472279347210

I always enjoy watching aerial photos and videos from around Lebanon especially that some photographer and drone operators have been doing a great job exploring cool places around the country.

Over the last couple of years, I think I came across photos/videos from almost all around Lebanon except for Dahyeh due to it being considered a security stronghold for Hezbollah, so taking photos there is usually a big No-No and can even get you in trouble. But that was until I recently stumbled upon some photos taken by Mahdi Skafi with his drone over Dahyeh and Hadath, and found them pretty cool as they were taken at night with a long exposure.

Mahdi also have a lot of other photos from various villages and villages and cities around the country and the ones below from Kfarsir, Tyr, and Sawfar.

You can check more photos from Mahdi on his Facebook page.

And as hard as it may sound, I also feel curious about aerial footage of the Palestinian refugee camps be it in Shatila, Saida or Naher el Bared, as well as the Syrian refugee camps and conflict zones in Arsal and Jroud Arsal.

Awesome Drone Footage of Faraya and Faqra

IMG_9719.PNG

A lot of people are uploading drone videos from Lebanon but Marc Howayek’s work really stands out from the rest with the editing he does. His latest videos shows parts of Faraya and Faqta using his DJI Phantom 3.

This 46 seconds video took one whole day to shoot by the way since the DJI battery drains out in 20 minutes and needs around two hours to fully recharge.

Man stabbed in Jdeideh over a car parking space

According to LBCI, this woman and her husband stabbed a man inside a beauty salon in Jdeideh after fighting with him over a parking space.

She’s called Hind Khatib. For your own safety, never try to get into an argument with her over anything!

Here’s how are the clashes like in Tripoli

Few thugs have been ruling this beautiful city for more than 5 or 6 years now, and I don’t see it ending anytime soon until one party totally defeats the other. Yet they’re almost equal in power, so it’s more like getting stuck in an endless loop.

Photos from the clashes in Saida

The clashes between Ahmad Al-Assir gunmen and the Lebanese army have been going for around 24 hours now and it seems like the army is determined on either arresting Ahmad Al-Assir or getting him out of his complex in a body bag.

According to The Daily Star, the clashes have so far claimed the lives of at least 17 soldiers and more than 25 gunmen.

Below are some photos I managed to collect through twitter as well as a video showing some bodies of the gunmen. I hope it all end soon for the good people of Saida.
