LBCI falls victim to the Facebook Inshallah button joke

You probably have heard in the last few days the joke about a new button being unveiled by Facebook to the Arabic market to allow the users in the region to respond with “Inshallah” to event invitation they receive. The joke was started by a parody website The Pan-Arabia Enquirer, and unfortunately the LBCI website fell for it! Check the article they posted here. (I expect them to delete it soon)

Following the opening of its office in Dubai, Facebook has revealed the first of what it claims will be many alterations to the social media site tailored to the local Arabic market. As of next week, users across the Middle East and North Africa will have to opportunity to respond with ‘Insha’Allah’ to an event invitation, along with the usual ‘Join’, ‘Maybe’ and ‘Decline’.

“This was the result of several focus groups across the region,” said Facebook Arabia’s Regional Solutions Manager, Majid Johnson. “Adding an ‘Insha’Allah’ button for Facebook events was by far and away the most popular request.”

Facebook Arabia also announced plans to introduce a ‘Platinum Upgrade’ specifically for GCC markets.

“This was another big winner in our focus groups,” claimed Johnson. “Facebook Platinum is going to be our premium option for the more exclusive social media user. It’s going to come with a significant signing on fee, but will offer five-star services, such as a bespoke wall and 24-hour status concierge facility, along with space for just 50 members at one time.”

Facebook Platinum is expected to launch this November.

Absolutely priceless!

Funny headline of the day

It looks like some people are quite happy about the turbulent situation in Lebanon and the warnings that were issued by several Arab countries regarding visiting the country.

According to The National, some GCC wives are satisfied that their husbands won’t be able to visit Lebanon this year and peek at the beautiful women here!

“This is one of the best summers” in a long time, one of my Emirati friends told me recently. She, like many Arab women, would get annoyed at what she called “buddy bonding” – guys-only trips to places like Lebanon. “My husband will not be going with his male friends to Lebanon and I feel so happy about it.”

The husband was quick to reply: “Well, if you want mountains, Lebanon has them. If you want beach, Lebanon has it. And it doesn’t hurt that wherever you look, you see beautiful women. A bonus for the eyes.”

In retaliation, the wife said she will be heading to Sweden this summer. Source

And that would of course mean one thing, more “beautiful women” for us who live in Lebanon!

This lady is hilarious!

You can shower me with your comments about the lady in niqab being free to celebrate and dance the way she pleases at the beginning of this video, but I’ll still find her funny!

Update:

It turned out the woman is actually mentally challenged. My cousin who lives in Tripoli confirmed it to me and claimed she’s from an area there called “Abou Samra”. You can also read Azmi’s input on the matter in the comments section.

Confessions of Lebanese taxi driver

Here’s one epic taxi driver. In just less than 30 seconds he managed to tell two Norwegian actors about  his dream, almost crash into another car, and of course curse at the other driver!

The two actors are actually Jorgen and Matias, who over a period of 3 weeks shot a web series of 14 episodes while walking across Lebanon from north to south, and in each episode they chose to walk for a different cause, thus the name of series “Walk of Causes”. You may check the series website here, and their blog here.

Beware of explosive pizza

Sheikh Omar Bakri who currently lives somewhere in Tripoli, claimed a few days ago that Al-Qaeda are so clever that they can even make an explosive pizza!

“Al Qaeda are so clever, they can make so many weapons from nothing. They can go to any kitchen, make a very nice pizza bomb and deliver it fresh,” added Bakri. Source

Now we’ve got to be careful with pizza delivery boys!

The Ed and Moe show

I just found this funny web series called “Ed and Moe show” portraying the life of two best friends who left their jobs and started planning to become successful businessmen.

It gets interesting knowing that Moe (Moe Makki) is actually of Lebanese origins, and living in Dearborn right in the middle of what is known as “Little Lebanon” in USA.

They have a complete season on their website right now. I wonder if there will be a second one soon.
