  • Waiting for Godot

The government always succeeds to leave us on our tiptoes waiting for the “next big thing” to solve the problems with our cellular networks.

It started with the poor service following the expansion two years ago, then the absence of 3G, and now the whole mess they got themselves into after introducing 3G! Thus the need for $110 million now to enhance the two networks and eventually put an end to the problems in 8 months.

“I am happy to announce to the Lebanese that the National Quality of Services for the cellular networks will put an end to the poor mobile services. This plan will take eight months to be completed. But the Lebanese will feel the positive results in two to three months. Today I have signed the appropriate investment decision which will allow the two cellular companies, Mtc Touch and Alfa, to start work on this big project,” the minister said. Source

I wonder what are we going to anticipate next!

  • Beirut Hotel banned in Lebanon?

Danielle Arbid just posted on her Facebook page that her new movie “Beirut Hotel“, which was scheduled to be released on January 19th 2011, will banned because it endangers Lebanon’s security!

I JUST BEEN NOTIFIED THAT MY LATEST FEATURE FILM BEIRUT HOTEL CANNOT BE SHOWN IN LEBANON ! ITS RELEASE IN BEIRUT, ORGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR 19 JANUARY 2012, HAS JUST BEEN CANCELLED. THE CENSORSHIP COMMITTEE ARGUED THAT : “THE FILM WOULD ENDANGER LEBANON’S SECURITY.”
PLEASE SPREAD THE NEWS AND MOBILISE AGAINST MIDDLE AGES CENSORSHIP. I NEED YOUR SUPPORT…

What a shame! As if the irresponsible statements (or farts?) our politicians make don’t endanger Lebanon’s security every single day!

    Update (December 12, 2011):

The Daily Star published today that the movie was banned because it mentions the assassination of ex-Prime Minister Rafik Hariri!

  • Cheyef 7alak strikes again

Once again, Cheyef 7alak exposes another character we all see every day.

Still, I believe a campaign like Cheyef 7alak is not enough to get such scumbags to change. The extremist in me thinks these people should be shot dead, that’s how much they irritate me.

  • Mariam Nour and the aliens

I seriously wonder what does Mariam Nour smoke. During an appearance with Tony Khalifeh, she recently revealed that she used to communicate with aliens and even had one of them sleeping at her house! She also claimed she’s not the only one, Sayed Hassan Nasrallah can also communicate with these aliens!

YOU HAVE TO WATCH THE WHOLE THING!

  • Yep, we’re a corrupt country

According to the 2011 Corruption Perception Index, Lebanon scored 2.5/10 and ranked 134 among 182 countries with New Zealand number 1 being the least corrupt, and Somalia at 182 being the most corrupt.

Compared to the Arab countries, we have a lot of work (or cleaning maybe?) to do since they’re all ahead of us except for Yemen, Libya, Iraq, Sudan and Somalia. What’s amazing though, is that in the most corrupt country (Somalia), electricity is actually available 24/7 for the people!

You can check the report here for the full results.

  • VIPs got food poisoning

I was going through Assafir newspaper last night when I stumbled upon this piece of news

Some VIP’s got food poisoning during an event they were attending at one of the famous hotels in Lebanon. I wonder which one is it… after all we might have to congratulate their chef for the good job he did if these people turned to be politicians! (In addition to avoid going there)

  • Lebanese army commando eating a chicken alive

Lebanese commandos are known to eating snakes at their their graduation ceremonies and during the shows they do occasionally. However, at one event they had to substitute the snake with a live chicken because of the cold weather, I have no idea about the relation between the two but that’s what the report says!

I personally might consider eating a snake as a macho act, but I’m not so sure when it comes to a chicken…! It would have been perfect thought if the video showed one of the Lebanese Darak doing the same thing, you know with all the jokes about how much they love to eat chicken sandwiches!

  • Alloush and Shokr now promoting Movember!

Movember, the worldwide campaign aimed to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues like prostate cancer, is now using Mustapha Alloush and Fayez Shokr fight to promote the month long event of growing mustaches by introducing subtitles to the video and make it look like they’re fighting over the size of their mustaches.

I guess there’s no need to feel ashamed of the video anymore since it’s promoting a noble cause now!

It’s be a bit hard for us who understand Arabic to focus on the subtitles alone. Best thing to do is to simply mute the sound.

  • Whisky Mist Beirut – Le Paon Rouge Nights

I was disappointed for having to skip an invitation to one of Le Paon Rouge shows last night at Whisky Mist as I was curious to check it out after reading a lot about it. But I was lucky enough to have Liliane sharing with me the photos she took from last night’s performance.

So there you go, a glimpse of Le Paon Rouge at the Mist!
