Terrible traffic at Ouzai this morning

ouzai traffic jam

Earlier this month, minister Marwan Charbel imposed a new traffic plan on truck drivers to keep them from driving during rush hours in order to reduce congestion on the main roads.

The drivers eventually didn’t like this plan, so they started complaining about it in the media until they decided to go on a protest today. And being the geniuses they are, they didn’t do that in front of the ministry of interior or any other reasonable place, on the other hand, they simply decided to block the Ouzai highway which is used by thousands everyday to reach Beirut, which made people wait for like an hour or two in their cars this morning! I know because I was one of them.

Police officers were as usual just watching the protestors, and not daring to speak a word with them, while trying to organize the traffic a bit.

Footage of the gunmen storming Tripoli’s Islamic Hospital

This country is seriously going beyond insane. A group of gunmen stormed into Tripoli’s Islamic Hospital last night and released a detainee called Mohamad Youssef, who was arrested for opening fire on minister Faisal Karami’s convoy a while ago, after beating up the police men who were guarding him.

Weirdly enough, the man was handed back to the security forces some hours later!

Lebanon’s first civil marriage not approved

marwan charbel

Unfortunately the civil marriage I posted about earlier did not get approved after the Interior Ministry referred it to the Justice Ministry, simply due to the fact that civil marriage is not yet allowed in Lebanon, and therefore the workaround that Nidal and Khouloud came up with did not work.

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said the Justice Ministry did not approve a Lebanese couple’s request for a civil marriage in the country.

“The Interior Ministry referred the marriage request to the Justice Ministry’s advisory panel, which studied the request and did not approve on it due to the absence of a law that regulates civil marriage,” Charbel told An-Nahar newspaper in remarks published Monday.

“Any similar request will not be [approved],” the minister also said, calling for a new law that regulates civil marriage.

“There must be a [law] to regulate the personal status, marriage and divorce as well inheritance and other similar issues,” Charbel added.

You can read about the issue in this article by Now Lebanon.

Grace period to pay outstanding mecanique fees extended

This will probably upset people who got stuck for hours at the mecanique center and Nefaa, but it’s definitely good news to those who still didn’t pay their outstanding fees including myself!

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said Friday that he has extended the year-end deadline so that more people could benefit from a 90 percent reduction on outstanding vehicle fees.

“We have extended the grace period for people to pay their outstanding vehicle fees for two months,” Charbel told Voice of Lebanon Radio Station. Source
