Instabeat and Wally mentioned on Forbes

General Views Of Dubai

Forbes recently posted about 10 Middle Eastern startups that will (hopefully) change lives in the MENA region and the world. Two of these startups are Instabeat, which was founded by Lebanese Hind Hobeika, and Wally, which has two Lebanese members on board of its team, Makram Saleh and Maya Zankoul.

You can check the full list here. If it were up to me, I would have also added eTobb.com.

Maya Zankoul’s Amalgam Book Signing

maya-zankoul

Earlier in May I introduced to you Maya’s Amalgam blog authored by Maya Zankoul, a very interesting blog that got exposure from the Future TV and Al-Horra, in addition to getting an interview with NOW Lebanon.

Over the past few weeks we were following the news of Maya preparing a book combining her posts, so it’s going to be her blog on papers! And last week she announced that the book signing will be on August 12 and will take at the Art Lounge. It’s a unique blogging experience I think, and I wish her all the best!

This Amalgam consists in sketches written and illustrated by the Lebanese graphic designer Maya Zankoul (DOB 30/06/1986). Those sketches represent many situations that everyone of us might face in their daily lives, addressing many critics to some of the society’s ugly habits. Everyone of you can actually find himself or recognize a situation that he or she might have encountered in their daily routines.

Congratulations Maya! 🙂

Blogs I liked

I usually spend a good time everyday following the updates on the Lebanese blogsphere, and I lately came across two nice blogs.

The first is “Hummus nation“, a very funny blog acting as a national news agency from the Hummus nation and reporting daily news (and breaking news sometimes!) about various matter. The latest news reported the phoenix bird being accidentally shot by hunters using RPG’s at Dawra. T3isho.
I’d love to know more about the anonymous author of Hummus Nation, it would be nice if he/she posts an “About me” page. From the writing style I think he’s a man who has gone through the Lebanese Civil war, probably in his mid or late thirties. And the first letter of his name is … oh well khalas.

The second is “Maya’s Amalgam“, authored by Maya Zankoul (not Zakkour!!). It’s just like any other peronal blog, except that Maya is using illustrations to deliver her opinions, messages and daily observations, a bit similar to what Mireille does at Life Geeked.
I have gone over several posts on her blog, and so far all her stories are short, amusing, and interesting. Matches my reading requirements at work!
