Funny headline of the day

It looks like some people are quite happy about the turbulent situation in Lebanon and the warnings that were issued by several Arab countries regarding visiting the country.

According to The National, some GCC wives are satisfied that their husbands won’t be able to visit Lebanon this year and peek at the beautiful women here!

“This is one of the best summers” in a long time, one of my Emirati friends told me recently. She, like many Arab women, would get annoyed at what she called “buddy bonding” – guys-only trips to places like Lebanon. “My husband will not be going with his male friends to Lebanon and I feel so happy about it.”

The husband was quick to reply: “Well, if you want mountains, Lebanon has them. If you want beach, Lebanon has it. And it doesn’t hurt that wherever you look, you see beautiful women. A bonus for the eyes.”

In retaliation, the wife said she will be heading to Sweden this summer. Source

And that would of course mean one thing, more “beautiful women” for us who live in Lebanon!

Champagne and caviar at ABC Cinema

Seems like champagne and caviar will be served at the soon to be open cinema theaters in ABC Dbayeh. To each his own, but do we really need this?

City Mall is also planning to have something similar at their “Cinemacity Premier”, which is expected to have the largest screen in Lebanon with 400 stadium seats and a VIP section according to what they’re advertising at the mall.

Photo of the day

A Lebanese soldier runs after a man who has stolen his rifle at a street that divides the Sunni and Alawite neighbourhoods in Tripoli. Source

What a shame! This scumbag deserves to be chased by a tank that runs over his body a thousand time!

Supermoon over Lebanon

As you may have read around the web in the last couple of days, the world witnessed the biggest and brightest full moon in 2012, also known as a Supermoon, which is the name used when referring to a full moon that occurs when the moon is at its closest distance to earth, and usually happens once every 412 days.

Below is a cool shot taken by Beirut Drive-By of the Supermoon over the Lebanese mountains last night.

Nahr El Mot bridge mocked

The bridge might be illogical, but it’s about time people learn which lane to drive in depending on their destination.

The traffic jam is all caused by people heading to Sin El Fil and insist to drive on the left side of the road until the last few meters before reaching the bridge located on the right side. That of course forces them to suddenly slow down and make a right turn to take the bridge, causing everyone behind them to slow down as well.

Keep left if you’re going to Beirut, and right when going to Sin El Fil! Easy!

Update:

Here’s the Facebook page of the people behind that sign.

Hawa Chicken caught in the act

I just came across this photo by Cheyef 7alak of raw chicken parts spilled on the road from a truck belonging to Hawa Chicken, with a worker apparently trying to put everything back into the plastic containers.

Notice how messy the inside of the truck also looks. Anyway, one can only hope these parts didn’t end up getting sold to Hawa Chicken’s customers!

Downtown’s famous street seller

If you go around the Nejmeh Sqaure at night, there’s a high probability you will be frightened by a street seller yelling “BEIRUT!!!” from behind your back in an attempt to later sell you images of old Beirut. To my knowledge, this man, Saadallah Basha, is probably the only street seller in Downtown Beirut…

It was probably about time someone writes about him, and yesterday he made it to The Daily Star!
