  • La Nuit des Musées 2018 is Taking Place This Saturday

    The Ministry of Culture is organizing the 5th edition of La Nuit des Musées which will take place this Saturday April 14th. This year, 13 museums around Lebanon will be open for free to the public starting 5:00PM until late at night.

    Free shuttles will be available at LibanPark parking in Mathaf area for people from Beirut who wish to visit the museums in the north and south, but reservations are mandatory through Virgin Ticketing box office to secure your place.

    I highly recommend you use public transportation to visit the participating museums in Beirut by the way because it tends to get very crowded around them on this day.

  • Social Media Awards Beirut official results in numbers

    The people behind the Social Media Awards Beirut took a great step towards being transparent by posting their official results in numbers in the latest issue of Cloud 961 magazine.

    The results show how many votes did every candidate get from both the public and judges, and final score was calculated based on the below formula:

    Total score = (Candidate’s public vote count / 2) + [ (Sum of public votes / 2) * (Candidate’s judges vote count / Sum of judges cotes)]

    Basically most results made sense to me except for the best fashion blog, where only 1 judge voted in favor of L’armoire de Lana even though she’s making a great effort covering fashion event both inside and outside Lebanon.

    Moreover, I was glad to see that 327 people voted for me in the best news blog category (and I’m truly thankful to each and everyone of them) even though I’ve never campaigned for votes and didn’t even nominate myself in the first place.

  • Jenifer elimnates Anthony Touma from The Voice France

    After making it to late stages in The Voice France, Anthony Touma was eliminated by his coach Jenifer even though he got 59.7% of the public vote, but Jenifer awarded him only 15 points out of 50 while his opponent Olympe got 35 points which was enough for him to qualify to the semi finals.

    Anyway, wishing him luck signing with some famous producer now!

    This video was made back in November but didn’t go viral probably because it didn’t have the best dance out there… still, the smile on the girl’s face was definitely priceless!

  • No more indoor smoking in Lebanon

    I wonder what will happen now to all these places that are mainly popular for their shisha, like Sanyour for example, when the law is put into effect.

    But then again, this law might end up just like any other law that never gets implemented as it should, or probably gets implemented for a short period of time before the police starts to ignore violators. Let’s wait and see.

  • Lebanon getting free WiFi in public parks

    I know it’s hard to belive, but the news is true! The ministry of telecommunications is teaming up with the Association of Banks and Sodetel to bring free WiFi to 11 public parks in Lebanon (mainly in Beirut) during working hours.

    1. Herch Beyrouth on a surface of 30.000 m2, knowing that its total area is 330,0000m2
    2. Sanayeh- René Mouawad (22,000 m2)
    3. Sioufi (20,000 m2)
    4. Ramleh Bayda  (10,000 m2)
    5. Manchiyeh- Tripoli (10,000 m2)
    6. Bourj Abi Haidar (7,000 m2)
    7. Talet el Khayat – Moufti Hassan Khaled (5,000 m2)
    8. Abou Chahla (5,000 m2)
    9. Yassouhiyé (4,400 m2)
    10. Saint Nicolas (2,200 m2)
    11. Basta Tahta (2,200 m2)

    Sioufi will be the first park to have the free WiFi starting today when ministers Nahas and Sehnaoui launch the service.

    It’s a great initiative indeed. But given the current internet speed in Lebanon, I highly doubt the service will be really usable by the people. I mean we’re barely able to make use of the internet at home, let alone a shared public bandwidth!
