Qatar Announces Visa Free Travel for Lebanese Citizens

Qatar just announced today waiving the visa requirements for Lebanese nationals as we have been added to the list of countries whose citizens can obtain a visa upon arrival to Qatar. (Source)

Given the large number of Lebanese expats in Qatar, this is definitely a good news at least for their relatives here. However, I can’t but find it odd that we were not granted this privilege by a gulf state until its neighbors started imposing a blockade on it…

Brazilian Olympic Football Team migth call off their trip to Lebanon

football fans

Too bad for us, the much anticipated football game between the Brazilian Olympic team and the Lebanese national team might get called off due to the crisis in Arsal earlier this month!

According to this article in Al-Akhbar today, the Brazilian Football Confederation is now considering moving their training camp to Qatar to guarantee the safety of their players away from the security incidents here in Lebanon.

The friendly game will still take place though even if the Brazilians insisted on going to Doha but will be postponed till September 6th instead of September 4th.

The Lykan Hypersport sold out

W Motors lykan hyper sport

Despite its very high price tag, the Lykan Hypersport managed to get over 100 orders soon after it was revealed in Qatar last month, which means the 7 copies of the car are already sold out.

The Lykan Hypersport was priced at $3.4 million which is probably enough to fill anyone’s garage with a cool collection of sports/super cars.

The Arab world’s first supercar was unveiled at the Qatar Motor Show last month, where fledgling carmaker W Motors revealed its Lykan Hypersport. Just a few weeks on and Beirut-based W Motors has revealed that over 100 orders for its two-seater supercar have already been taken. Not an astronomical number by most standards, until you realize that Arab supercar has been priced at $3.4 million – making it the world’s most expensive production car. Source

I’d love to see the guys at Top Gear or Nadim Mehanna maybe trying it out on TV and have their say about it.

Don’t miss Lebanon vs. Qatar game today

Don’t miss following the world cup qualifying game between our national team and Qatar today at 4:45PM Beirut time. This is a quite important one as it can seriously increase our chance to qualify to the world cup in case we won.

If you’re wondering how will our chances be affected in case of a win or loss, here’s how figo29 put it:

I will keep things simple and put the math first, so that no one would panic in case of a loss:

  1. A win against Qatar will put Lebanon on equal terms with Korea Republic = 80% chance of going to World Cup 2014
  2. A draw will keep Lebanon at the bottom of the group = 40% chance of going to World Cup 2014
  3. A loss will change nothing = 20% chance of making it to World Cup 2014

The game will be broadcasted on Al-Jazeera sports and I guess all major news sites will be posting the important updates in realtime.

Update:

We unfortunately lost 0-1 to Qatar and we now have very little chance to advance to the world cup.

Mabrouk Lebanon!

So we did it and defeated Iran tonight!!

Lebanon stunned Iran 1-0 today to claim their first ever win against the regional giants and raise hopes of gaining a shock 2014 FIFA World Cup™ berth.

China-based midfielder Roda Antar headed home a free-kick on 28 minutes for Lebanon’s famous victory, in front of their home fans in Beirut, which lifted them off the bottom of Group A. Source

After playing 4 games we now have 4 points which is as much as Iran and Qatar have, except that they have played 3 games so far and therefore have one game in hand. You can check the standings here.

Our team still has 4 more games remaining with the next one being against Qatar on November 14th.

Fans will be allowed to attend Lebanon – Qatar game

AlJadeed News just reported a while ago that the government has decided to draw back its previous decision to ban people from attending the upcoming world cup qualifying game between Lebanon and Qatar.

We may now cheer out national team the way we should. All the luck to the players!

Lebanon – Qatar game to be played without fans!

Looks like the upcoming World Cup qualifying game between Lebanon and Qatar at Beirut Sports City is going to be played without fans. That’s what the government has announced today in fear that possible chants against Qatar might threaten the relation between the two countries!

As if banning fans from attending games between the local teams was not enough, not they’re banned from international games as well! Why do Lebanese politics have to mess up everything in this country?
