  • Jal El Dib Bridges Are Finally Open – Traffic is Even Worse Now

Following two years of construction work in Jal El Dib, the two 2L bridges were finally open for traffic last Saturday.

With the project completion, people were promised and actually expected the traffic to get better, except that it actually got worse, and I guess the outcome is simply logical. For cars coming from Jounieh towards Beirut, the road is effectively now narrower in Jal El Dib with an exist ramp follwed by an entrance ramp that eventually turbulate the traffic thanks to the way we drive around here. For example you always see drivers making a sharp right from the left lane to take the exit on the right and consequently slow down the traffic behind them.

People in charge of road management definitely deserve a trophy. And for those who make the Jounieh-Beirut trip everyday and now have an additional bottleneck on their way, antidepressant pills maybe.

  • Awesome Aerial Video From Around Lebanon

I know YouTube is infested with Lebanese drone shot videos but some just stand out and are too good not to share. The one below is produced by Dark Matters and is available in UHD resoultion, so if you have a suitable display and a hopefully fast connection just let it load in 4K and enjoy the cool shots and music.

  • Municipality of Jounieh is Banning Colored Baby Chicks

Dyeing chicks for Easter has been a tradition for ages now but I have always hated it. Not only because the used dye is toxic, but also because it turns the small chicks into seasonal gifts for children to enjoy an then quickly abandon after a short time.

And in a country where animal cruelty is rarely prosecuted, it’s good to finally see somebody doing some effort to stop this practice. The municipality of Jounieh posted on their Facebook page today that they are banning mobile vendors from selling colored chicks around the city.

I’m pretty sure if more municipalities did the same then it will only take a single season to stop those who dye baby chicks from doing it.

    Update:

Ziad Chebib the governor of Beirut also banned the selling of baby chicks in Beirut.

  • Tiny Beirut – A Cool Tilt-Shift Video

    tiny beirut

I found this cool tilt-shift video on Vimeo today with scenes from Beirut, Jounieh, and Byblos and thought it is worth sharing on the blog.

It was made by a photographer named Eirik Evjen and I personally found it quite nice for a change at a time when most of the viral videos lately showing parts of Lebanon are taken using drones.

You can check more of Eirik’s work on his website.

  • Video of The Jounieh Fireworks Show Last Night

    IMG_9675.PNG

Jounieh International Festival took off last night with a 7 minute synchronized fireworks show along the coast. Not much people have yet shared the videos they took so here’s one from MTV Lebanon.

I don’t want to sound like a party pooper as I know many people found the show to be pretty cool, but I personally can’t but say it was no more than a repetition from the last two years. I mean I totally salute the municipality of Jounieh for their efforts, but I don’t think they’re being super creative with the awesome bay they have. I bet much more can be done along the coast especially that Dubai always manages to amaze the world with their yearly show and they only use one Burj Khalifa to do it.

For those who missed Jounieh’s fireworks show Friday night, I found the below video of it from MTV Lebanon. (Start watching at the 4 minute mark)

  • Uf Chou Laziz – Sexy birthday gift prank

Uf Chou Laziz is an initiative by Uf Concepts to promote fun through pranks, flashmobs, and random acts of kindness.

In some of their earlier videos, they pranked a delivery guy from Deek Duke, gave away free fuel coupons to random drivers, and went scuba diving in Anterlias’ pothole!

For more about Uf Concepts you can check their Facebook page.

  • Hallab 2 – Doueihy 1

I’m not sure if Hallab’s last reply is real and already on the streets, but it’s definitely cool if they did it!
