  • Awesome video of Jounieh International Festival Opening Show

I just found this cool video by Rodrigue Zahr of the synchronized firework show and the boat gathering that marked the opening of Jounieh International Festival last night. For more info about the festival program, make sure to check this website.

  • Golden owl spotted in Tyre

    owl

Following the dolphins that were spotted near Jounieh few months ago, and the seal lion in Tyre last week, workers in Hiram Hospital spotted four golden owls in the hospital’s garden today.

Workers in Hiram Hospital were surprised to spot on Thursday four golden owls in the hospital’s garden in Tyre, noting that this kind of bird is uncommon to the country’s wildlife.

A Golden owl is characterized with far vision, particularly in low light, and is dubbed “cleaner of the environment” and “farmer-friendly” since this bird feeds on rats and insects.

According to some experts, the aforementioned species are coming to Lebanon due to climate change since this phenomenon has a significant direct effect on animals. Source

    I wonder what’s coming next!

  • Dolphins spotted in Lebanon’s sea

This video was shot 2-3 kilometers out of Jounieh.

    Thank you Lynn

  • The solution to traffic jam in Lebanon

These people found the ultimate solution to traffic jam in Lebanon, set up an Arguileh and share it with people around while stuck on the highway. Better yet, want to avoid fights during the wait? Add some Bekaai made “tobacco” to it!

    Thank you @krikOrianm

  • Old videos of Lebanon

Check out this collection of old video segments shot in Lebanon during the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s of last century. I just love to watch these stuff and see how did the country use to look like before eruption of the civil war.

The videos vary from a report about the events that led to our independence in 1943, to random scenes from Beirut, Jeita Grotto, Telepherique Jounieh, as well as footage of the US marines landing in Lebanon in 1958.

It’s a bummer though that a lot of the listed videos are silent since they’re just offered for preview while the full versions require a license fee, but they’re still worth watching anyway.

    Thank you Kheireddine.

  • Meshtah Dagher – Haret Sakhr

This small kiosk called “Meshtah Dagher” on Haret Sakhr main road has some really great Saj Manakish. For some reason the guy there (Charbel) refers to them as “Meshtah”, which to my knowledge is a kind of bread, while in fact the Manakish he makes are actually called “Mashrouha”. Anyway whatever they’re called, they just taste great!

Charbel is pretty generous with the ingredients, be it zaatar, cheese, or keshk, while the dough is thin and light, the kind that doesn’t make you feel stuffed when you’re done. Definitely worth a try when you’re passing by on a morning.

  • Screenshots from Flashman (1967) in Lebanon

Cool find by Beirut/NTSC of the below images taken from “Flashman“, and originally posted by Kheireddine in Skyscraper City.

So this is is how it was in 1967, the first one shot in Jounieh, the second in Maameltein back when the train ran through it, and the third one in Rawche next to the famous rocks. I am not getting nostalgic or anything, but – alongside that famous scene from James Bond (where he was having sex in Baalbeck!) – this is a throwback for a long-gone era (an era where things were brewing underneath the flashiness).

So, anyone got that scene of James Bond in Baalbeck? 😛

  • CK One shock drive-by graffiti

I hope next jobs won’t cause similar traffic jams! Cool job nevertheless.

  • Yet another Guinness world record: Longest bar in Jounieh

This madness doesn’t seem like ending anytime soon, now we’re all set to break the Guinness record for the world’s longest bar. The event is happening on the 31st of August in Jounieh’s Old Souk, and tickets will be sold for 30$ including 2 drinks in all Jounieh pubs starting Thursday.

    Check here for more details.

  • Partying on the highway

I was on my way to Beirut on Sunday when I saw these guys literally having a party on the highway all the way from Halat to Jounieh!

    Partying on the highway
Everyone in the car was standing, including the driver…

    Partying on the highway 1
… since he can drive with his feet!

    Partying on the highway 2
They kept exchanging CD’s with the Picanto on the left.

    Partying on the highway 3
“the party don’t start until I walk in” more wazawiz are here!

    Partying on the highway 4
Surprisingly (or not), there were several policemen on the road and none of them bothered to stop that car!

That’s definitely taking “wazwaza” to a whole new level!
