The order of nurses should loosen up a bit

Do you recall the XXL ad featuring nurses in an elderly care center? That ad stopped showing on Lebanese TVs a while ago, and it turned out it was the order who called for banning it because they believed it gave nurses a bad image, just as in the case with “My last valentine in Beirut“. The news was mentioned on the order of nurses Facebook page, as well as at the end of this article in L’Orient-Le Jour.

Those people should really loosen up a bit!

Bird hunting in Lebanon

Birds hunting season has been on for a while now, and unfortunately Lebanese hunters are shooting at anything that flies, just as in every year.

Check out this article from Wildlife Extra about hunting in Lebanon and the massacres hunters are committing by shooting very large quantities and targeting some rare species.

The Lebanese Eco Movement says “All kinds of birds are being hunted, and most of hunters are indifferent to the matter of protected birds. We are witnessing the murder of many protected birds, mainly soaring birds (aquatic birds and raptors), including pelicans, storks, cranes, raptors.”

“As for the birds that can be hunted, there is no respect for the numbers and limits. We are witnessing birds being killed in thousands. A single hunter may kill more than one thousand birds. Hunters are of all ages; they may be as young as 10, even though Lebanese law prohibits holding weapons for ages less than 18.”

“Hunting mainly takes place during weekends, but hunters can be seen any day of the week, at any place, even inside cities and between houses.”

BRGR Co. opening in London

I was quite surprised to read about BRGR Co. opening its first outlet outside Lebanon in London, since we’re basically used to burger restaurants from the US and Europe coming to our region and not the other way around.

A new burger restaurant is set to open in London’s Soho next month, with the launch of BRGR.CO as the first site for the Beirut-based company.

BRGR.CO will use 28-day-aged beef from the Duke of Buccleuch Estate in south-west Scotland. Focusing on simplicity, the restaurant will serve a menu of three classic choices of burger: the 4oz, 6oz or 8oz with optional toppings of cheese or chilli-con-carne. A selection of traditional American-inspired sides, milkshakes and desserts will complete the menu offering.

The 55-seat restaurant will feature floor-to-ceiling windows as well as dark oak tables and chairs. A selection of character cow heads will be featured throughout the restaurant, which will be regularly auctioned with proceeds going to local London charities.

Located on Wardour Street, BRGR.CO Soho will be the first UK venue for the brand that operates two sites in Beirut. Source

It would be cool by the way if they also offered the Lebanese burger (the one that has the salad and fries inside it) on their menu there in London!!

New album for Fayrouz?

Let’s hope this is true. Al-Anba (A Kuwaiti newspaper) posted today that Fayrouz will soon be releasing a new album and is currently busy choosing the songs to be included in it.

I also hope she holds a concert in parallel as I still have never watched Fayrouz performing live, and totally regretted missing the opportunity to do so in the last few years at BIEL and Pleatea.

My last valentine in Beirut

“My last valentine in Beirut” is a Lebanese movie by Salim El-Turk and was supposed to be released back in May but for some reason it didn’t make it.

A few days ago I started seeing some posters announcing it will premiere in theaters on November 15th.

Needless to say, it looks cheap.
